Saturator Replacement
🔧 Saturator Replacement – One-Day Shutdown Success, another solid outcome delivered by the GEM team.
With the existing saturator reaching the end of its service life, a full isolation procedure was developed and executed using LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) practices to ensure safe removal.
🛠️ Scope of Works:
- Decommission and remove the legacy saturator and differential pressure transmitter (DPT).
- Installation of the new stainless-steel saturator with modified pipework.
- Supply and install a new DPT and stainless-steel pipework to suit the upgraded configuration.
🚧 Challenges Overcome:
Access to the building and the saturator location was extremely restricted — no lifting beams, no anchor points, and minimal clearance. The team had to think outside the box to safely remove the old unit and install the new one, all without compromising safety or schedule.
⏱️ Result:
- All works were completed within a single-day shutdown, minimising downtime and restoring full functionality with zero incidents.
- A great example of engineering execution under pressure — well done to everyone involved.
