HDPE Large-Diameter Seawater Diffuser Project

May 2026

Arrival of OD1800 Materials & Commencement of Flanged Spool Fabrication

GEM has taken another significant step forward on the large‑diameter seawater diffuser project, with the arrival of OD1800 SDR26 HDPE pipe and several short 1800mm flanged sections at our facility this week. These components form the basis of the next major fabrication milestone: the construction of two OD1800 flanged spool sections, which will be produced using our 2‑metre HDPE fusion welder.

Material Delivery & Verification

The newly delivered OD1800 pipe and flanged sections have undergone GEM’s standard verification process, ensuring all materials align with project specifications and meet the required quality benchmarks for marine infrastructure applications. This delivery marks the transition into the next phase of fabrication, following the successful completion of earlier fusion works on the diffuser system.

Fabrication of OD1800 Flanged Spools

With materials now on the ground, the fabrication team has commenced preparation and setup for the fusion of the two large‑diameter spool sections.

Key activities include:

  • Preparation of OD1800 SDR26 pipe lengths

  • Alignment and setup on the 2m HDPE fusion welder

  • Fusion of pipe to short flanged sections to create complete OD1800 flanged spools

  • Dimensional checks and QA documentation prior to release for assembly

These spools will integrate into the broader diffuser system, supporting the upcoming marine installation works.

Project Momentum

The arrival of the OD1800 materials continues the strong momentum established across the project. From international procurement and verification through to fusion, assembly, and now large‑diameter spool fabrication, each stage has been delivered with the discipline and coordination expected of GEM’s marine‑infrastructure capability.

The team remains focused as the project progresses toward final assembly and offshore installation.

Project Overview

GEM Industrial continues to advance the delivery of the HDPE large‑diameter seawater diffuser system forming part of a major marine infrastructure upgrade. The project brings together international manufacturing, precision fusion welding, and large‑scale HDPE fabrication — all executed to the highest technical standards. This diffuser represents a significant piece of coastal infrastructure and highlights our capability in large‑scale HDPE fabrication and marine‑environment installations.

Supplier Visit & Inspection

Recently, we welcomed representatives from our international manufacturing partner in Thailand, who travelled to site to inspect their custom‑fabricated fittings, 1800mm HDPE pipe, and the progress of our fabrication works.

Their visit included a detailed review of:

• Delivered pipe and fittings

• Fusion welding quality

• Dimensional accuracy and compliance

• Staging, handling, and fabrication processes

The feedback was extremely positive. They were highly impressed with the condition of their components on arrival, the precision of our welding, and the overall standard of workmanship being delivered by the GEM Industrial team. This independent validation from the manufacturer reinforces the quality benchmarks we set for ourselves and the confidence our partners place in our capability.

Fabrication Progress

With approximately 90% of fusion welds now complete, the project remains ahead of schedule. The team continues to maintain tight control over quality, sequencing, and safety as we move through the final stages of fabrication.

Next Stage

The upcoming works will focus on installing the large superduplex backing rings — a critical step in preparing the diffuser for final assembly and marine deployment.

Our Commitment

This project continues to highlight GEM Industrial’s strength in delivering complex HDPE infrastructure with precision and pride. The positive feedback from our international supplier underscores the professionalism and discipline of our crew and the quality of work being produced on site.

Further updates will follow as we progress toward assembly and installation.

Project Overview

GEM Industrial is delivering a major HDPE large‑diameter seawater diffuser system as part of a critical marine infrastructure upgrade. The project involves complex logistics, precision fusion welding, and the integration of custom‑fabricated components sourced from international manufacturing partners. This diffuser represents a significant piece of coastal infrastructure and highlights our capability in large‑scale HDPE fabrication and marine‑environment installations.

Recent Progress

The project continues to advance rapidly, supported by strong planning and coordinated delivery. Key materials have now arrived on site, including 1800mm HDPE pipe and a suite of custom‑fabricated fittings. All components were safely unloaded, staged, and verified against engineering specifications.

Our team has completed a comprehensive material verification process, including:

  • Dimensional accuracy checks

  • Material compliance validation

  • Inspection of custom components

  • Alignment with project engineering requirements

With this phase complete, the project has moved smoothly into fabrication.

Fusion Welding Progress

Fusion welding has progressed ahead of schedule, with approximately 90% of all welds now complete. This milestone positions the team to transition into the next phase of assembly with confidence.

Next Stage

The upcoming works will focus on fitting the large‑scale superduplex backing rings, a critical step in preparing the diffuser for final assembly and marine installation.

Our Commitment

This project reflects GEM Industrial’s dedication to precision, safety, and technical excellence. From international procurement to on‑site fabrication and upcoming marine installation, our team continues to deliver with discipline and pride.

Further updates will be shared as the diffuser progresses toward completion.

December 2025

Our HDPE large‑diameter seawater diffuser project continues to advance with strong momentum, marking another important milestone for the team. Recently we saw the arrival of key materials, including 1800mm HDPE pipe and a suite of custom‑fabricated fittings sourced from our international manufacturing partners. After being freighted to site, all components were safely unloaded and staged for the next phase of works.

Our team has now completed a thorough verification process, checking every pipe length and fitting against the required standards, specifications, and tolerances. This includes:

• Precise dimensional checks

• Material compliance verification

• Inspection of custom components

• Confirmation of alignment with project engineering requirements

With all materials validated and ready for assembly, we’re well positioned to move into the next stage of fabrication and installation. This project represents a significant piece of infrastructure, and we’re proud of the meticulous planning, coordination, and technical expertise that continues to drive it forward.

More updates to come as the diffuser takes shape.
