Walyalup Bridge in Fremantle

Great to see the new Walyalup Bridge in Fremantle officially open.

It’s always rewarding to see a major infrastructure project completed and serving the community, particularly when GEM Industrial has had the opportunity to play a part in it.

As part of the wider Swan River Crossings Project, GEM’s scope involved fusion welding 2 x 500-metre-long strings of OD630mm PN25 HDPE pipe for the relocation of potable water infrastructure.

Each continuous 500m string was then individually pulled through HDD drill shots beneath the Swan River, allowing the water mains to be relocated from the old Fremantle Traffic Bridge to a new alignment underneath the river.

It was one specialised piece of a much larger project, but exactly the type of challenging HDPE work our team loves being involved in.

The completed Walyalup Bridge is Australia’s first extradosed bridge and replaces the ageing timber bridge that had served Fremantle for almost 86 years.

Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering another great piece of Australian infrastructure. Proud to know GEM played our part.
