Taking Off to Tasmania
Shaw Contracting has engaged GEM Industrial to deliver the HDPE fusion of approximately 100 km of PE112 pipe (1,000 mm–160 mm) for the Sassafras Wesley Vale Irrigation Scheme Augmentation.
With works now progressing across northern Tasmania, GEM is utilising local aviation services from Leongatha to transport crew members to and from Devonport.
To resource the project, we’ve implemented a hybrid workforce model that includes:
• Relocating experienced GEM staff to Tasmania
• Recruiting locally to strengthen regional capability
• Supplementing crews with fly‑in, fly‑out team members from Leongatha
Woorayl Air Services provides a safe and efficient one‑hour connection each week, flying crews to Devonport on Monday mornings for prestart activities and returning them to Leongatha on Friday afternoons.
