HDPE Large‑Diameter Seawater Diffuser

Arrival of OD1800 Materials & Commencement of Flanged Spool Fabrication

GEM has taken another significant step forward on the large‑diameter seawater diffuser project, with the arrival of OD1800 SDR26 HDPE pipe and several short 1800mm flanged sections at our facility this week.

These components form the basis of the next major fabrication milestone: the construction of two OD1800 flanged spool sections, which will be produced using our 2‑metre HDPE fusion welder.

Material Delivery & Verification

The newly delivered OD1800 pipe and flanged sections have undergone GEM’s standard verification process, ensuring all materials align with project specifications and meet the required quality benchmarks for marine infrastructure applications.

This delivery marks the transition into the next phase of fabrication, following the successful completion of earlier fusion works on the diffuser system.

Fabrication of OD1800 Flanged Spools

With materials now on the ground, the fabrication team has commenced preparation and setup for the fusion of the two large‑diameter spool sections.

Key activities include:

  • Preparation of OD1800 SDR26 pipe lengths

  • Alignment and setup on the 2m HDPE fusion welder

  • Fusion of pipe to short flanged sections to create complete OD1800 flanged spools

  • Dimensional checks and QA documentation prior to release for assembly

These spools will integrate into the broader diffuser system, supporting the upcoming marine installation works.

Project Momentum

The arrival of the OD1800 materials continues the strong momentum established across the project. From international procurement and verification through to fusion, assembly, and now large‑diameter spool fabrication, each stage has been delivered with the discipline and coordination expected of GEM’s marine‑infrastructure capability.

The team remains focused as the project progresses toward final assembly and offshore installation.
